About Us

Registered with the Ministry of Social Services I 2002, under No. L 60104, this association consists of a vast pool of qualified, experienced teachers. The target of this Association is the improvement of English language skills especially among the youth. The primary objective is to blend English Language Teaching professionals into a social entity to promote and enhance essential communication skills in our youth so that they become disciplined and productive citizens. To this end the ELT Programme commenced in 2004, with the Kalutara Bodhi Trust and, has to date facilitated 12,000 students to successfully complete the GCE O/L examination while at the same time achieving reasonable competency in the use of the language.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFESSIONALS’ ASSOCIATION to be registered with limited liability without the word ‘Limited’ to its name’ and the primary objects for which the organization is proposed to be established are as follows;


1. To promote scholarship and professional development
2. To organize seminars and workshop in the areas of teaching methodology, materials development, curriculum design and evaluation;
3. To collaborate with other organizations to develop language curricula;
4. To conduct pre-service and in-service programmes;
5. To provide consultancy to individuals & groups engaged in English Language Teaching (ELT);
6. To provide opportunities for study and research;
7. To upgrade the English Language skills of employees in public service, private sector and banks;
8. To conduct training programmes to upgrade the English writing and speaking skills of unemployed youth, with special reference to newly passed out graduates especially from the local universities in order to make them more employable and thereby assist the Government in solving the employment problem.
9. To do all such other acts/ measures as may be necessary, incidental, conducive or convenient to the attainment of the above aims and objectives of the association.
10. The organization does not engage in primary and secondary education

• ELPA will provide a forum for individuals already trained in their professions, and any others who wish to interact and improve their level of English proficiency and cultural awareness
• We promote, excellence in the theory and practice of teaching English skills among professional teacher
• The courses are designed for those motivated individuals who are willing to learn English language as a skill for social and educational purposes.
• To prepare students for successful international study at graduate or undergraduate level through ILETS and TOFEL preparatory courses.
